Machinist job brief

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Machinist to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating various machine tools and equipment to produce precision parts and tools. The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable about machine operations and maintenance techniques, as well as adept at interpreting blueprints and schematics.

Machinist responsibilities

• Set up and operate various machine tools, including lathes, milling machines, and grinders, to fabricate and repair precision parts and tools.
• Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and schematics to determine machining operations required.
• Measure and inspect parts using various precision measuring instruments to ensure conformance with specifications.
• Troubleshoot and resolve problems with machinery and equipment, and perform routine maintenance as required.
• Maintain accurate production records and logs, including material usage and scrap rates
• Collaborate with engineers and other production staff to develop and improve production processes and methods.
• Adhere to all health and safety policies and procedures, and promptly report any accidents or incidents to management.
• Train and mentor junior machinists, as required.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent; vocational technical training in machining or a related field preferred
• Minimum of 5 years' experience operating various machine tools, including lathes, milling machines, and grinders
• Knowledge of machining processes, tooling, and fixturing
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, engineering drawings, and schematics
• Ability to use various precision measuring instruments, such as micrometers and gauges
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
• Experience with manual and CNC machine operation
• Knowledge of machine maintenance and repair techniques
• Ability to lift and move heavy objects, as required
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills
• Knowledge of safety procedures and regulations
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
• Must have knowledge of machining plastics as well as metals
