Job Brief
Social and human service assistants help clients identify and obtain benefits and services. They work with clients to develop a plan of care that meets their needs and helps them navigate through the various programs available to them.
Social and human service assistants work with a variety of clients, including children, the elderly, and people with disabilities. They may work in a variety of settings, such as hospitals, nursing homes, and community centers.
Social and human service assistants must be able to work with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures. They must be able to communicate effectively with clients who may have limited English proficiency or who may be hearing or visually impaired.
Social and human service assistants must be able to work under pressure and handle stressful situations. They must be able to remain calm and professional when dealing with clients who may be upset or angry.
Responsibilities
- Interview clients to determine their needs and eligibility for services.
- Help clients complete applications for benefits and services.
- Provide information about available programs and services.
- Monitor clients' progress and adjust plans as needed.
- Work with other professionals to coordinate services for clients.
- Maintain accurate records of client interactions.
- Provide emotional support to clients and their families.
- Assist clients with daily living activities, such as bathing and dressing.
- Help clients develop life skills, such as budgeting and time management.
- Coordinate transportation for clients to appointments and other activities.
- Attend meetings and training sessions to stay up-to-date on policies and procedures.
Requirements
- Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in social work or a related field
- Experience working with vulnerable populations
- Knowledge of community resources and services
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
