Senior Data Engineer job description

Job brief

We are seeking a detail-focused, knowledgeable and professional Senior Data Engineer to join our team! The ideal fit for the role will have a strong background in IT and data mining or engineering and the ability to build bespoke systems to harness data. The key focus of the position is to build or maintain systems to capture and store data on behalf of the business. 

Responsibilities

• Review and analyze existing data collection systems, and make recommendations on improvement, maintenance, or other factors to improve the system.
• Develop, build, and implement new data collection systems where needed.
• Provide training and guidance on new systems that are being implemented.
• Keep the code used on file for future upgrades and repairs to the system.
• Manage and convert raw data into understandable information for other professionals.
• Ensure data is accessible to the required personnel to ensure the ease of understanding and access to the data needed to make informed business decisions.
• Train and mentor junior engineers.
• Ensure that implemented data systems have the relevant security.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or above in IT, computer science, or related field
• Demonstrated experience in a similar role
• Ability to read, understand and write code
• Ability to effectively manage data and its security
• Strong analytical skills, with keen attention to detail
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
• Demonstrated knowledge of data storage procedures
• Good report writing skills
• Good problem-solving abilities
• Ability to prioritize own time and workload
