Job brief
The Parole Officer will be responsible for assisting vulnerable offenders who face significant barriers and require guidance in living with issues such as mental health, addictions, and financial scarcity.
Responsibilities
- Provide services related to probation, parole, and conditional sentences to adult offenders.
- Investigate and compile information to prepare reports ordered by the Courts and the Parole Board to supporting sentencing and parole decisions.
- Offer guidance and support to offenders through meaningful interventions and skills building.
- Liaise with victims and build relationships with diverse criminal justice system partners and stakeholders.
- Make formal human behavior assessments and interpret and analyze offender risk and needs.
- Use professional discretion to make timely and appropriate decisions that are aligned with offender supervision strategies, individual needs, critical analysis, policy, and legislation.
- Enhance community safety by monitoring and enforcing conditions of court orders.
- Assess risk and needs and develop and implement offender case management plans to address those needs.
Requirements
- A degree in social work, psychology, sociology, or criminology
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a social service or correctional organization in the delivery of structured individual and group interventions
- Skilled in building relationships and providing guidance and support
- Demonstrate analytical thinking, sound judgment, and decisiveness
- Knowledge of social justice, reintegration, and rehabilitation programs
- Ability to remain empathetic and be discreet and maintain confidentiality
