Paraprofessional Job Brief
As a paraprofessional, your primary responsibility will be to help teachers provide consistent and effective instruction to students. You will assist classroom teachers with their daily classroom activities and help to ensure that teaching materials are up-to-date and well-maintained. You will work closely with the classroom teacher to support the education of each student and provide guidance to help them achieve educational success.
Your role as a paraprofessional will involve providing instructional support to individual students who require additional assistance in their education. You will monitor student progress and track individual progress towards educational goals, providing guidance and support as students work towards mastery of course content.
Paraprofessional Responsibilities
- Instructional Support: Paraprofessionals assist students with educational tasks such as reading, writing, and math under the guidance of a teacher. They may also provide one-on-one tutoring or small group instruction to help struggling students.
- Classroom Management: Paraprofessionals help manage classroom activities and maintain discipline. They enforce classroom rules, monitor student behavior, and provide corrective guidance when necessary.
- Special Needs Support: Paraprofessionals work with students who have special needs such as physical or mental disabilities. They may assist with feeding, toileting, or mobility needs and provide support for learning and social development.
- Classroom and Material Maintenance: Paraprofessionals maintain the cleanliness and organization of the classroom and ensure that educational materials are available for students. They may also assist with preparing instructional materials.
- Communication: Paraprofessionals communicate with parents, administrators, teachers, and other school officials. They may attend meetings, provide progress reports, and seek feedback to better support their students’ educational needs.
Qualifications
- Completion of a high school education or equivalent
- Completion of at least two years of college or possession of an associate’s degree
- Demonstrated ability to assist in teaching reading, writing, and math (or reading readiness, writing readiness, and math readiness) by passing a Hiring Requirements Option
- Prior experience working with elementary school students
- A compassionate nature and the ability to help teachers with classroom organization and management
