Optometrist job description

Job brief

We are seeking an Optometrist to perform vision and eye tests, diagnose defects of the eye and prescribe medications, contact lenses, and eyeglasses.

Responsibilities

• Perform eye examinations and identify patients’ field of vision, visual alertness, and hand-eye coordination.
• Diagnose sight problems of patients.
• Provide patients with solutions to their issues.
• Prescribe corrective lenses, glasses, and medication to patients when required.
• Educate patients on eye care techniques, and on how to maintain their contact lenses.
• Refer to appropriate specialists when necessary.
• Document the diagnosis and treatment plan in detail.
• Provide pre and post-operative care for eye procedures such as laser vision correction and cataract surgery.
• Maintain contact with ophthalmology, optical, and support workers to ensure the highest level of clinical care and service.

Requirements

• Degree in Optometry
• State optometric license
• Minimum two years of past work experience as an Optometrist
• Expert in eye-related conditions
• Good interpersonal skills
• Attention to detail
• Ability to work weekends
