Job brief
We are seeking a professional, detail-focused, and dynamic Medical Surgery Nurse to join our team! The ideal candidate must display a broad knowledge of medical surgery and assisting in such. The role's key focus will be to provide support to patients during and after surgery, as well as ensure proper medication is prescribed and recorded where required.
Responsibilities
- Prepare, administer, and record any medications prescribed.
- Change dressings, and wound coverings when required.
- Insert catheters and IV’s when needed.
- Draw blood samples as required.
- Use and adjust specialized medical equipment such as hoists and adjustable beds.
- Interpret and record measurements.
- Monitor patients' vital signs.
- Report any adverse reactions to administered medication in a timely manner.
- Provide reassurance and other assistance to patients.
- Maintain a good bedside manner.
- Attend conferences and workshops to remain up to date with industry standards.
- Work in line with patient confidentiality guidelines.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing
- Minimum of two years of medical nursing experience either in an externship, internship, or demonstrated work experience
- Excellent attention to detail
- Physically able to work long shifts whilst on your feet
- Able to be on call for emergencies
- Demonstrated knowledge of medication and its uses
- Kind, compassionate and caring nature
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
- Able to consistently work in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment
