Job brief
We are seeking a detail-focused, professional and reliable Mail Handler’s Assistant to join our team! The ideal fit for the role will have previous experience in a similar role, and enjoy bringing mail and other items to customers. The key focus of the position is to ensure mail and other packages arrive on time, and in good condition whilst providing excellent customer service.
Responsibilities
- Ascertain the main route for the day and ensure that the vehicle is loaded with the packages and mail in the correct order of the route to ensure efficiency.
- Scan packages or track items onto the vehicle with a hand-held scanner.
- Drive the company vehicle in a professional and courteous manner.
- Deliver mail and packages to customers at their homes in your designated route.
- Obtain signatures from customers for their mail or packages when required.
- Ensure tracked items are scanned and marked as delivered.
- Ensure the mail vehicle is secured at all times and not at risk of theft.
- Perform ID checks to ensure the mail is going to the correct person.
- Assist customers enquiring about lost mail or delays in receiving their packages.
- Respect customers' property, ensuring gates are closed, and packages are left in safe places as designated by the customer if they are not home to receive their package.
- Fill out “we missed you” cards for customers who were not home, and leave clear instructions on how to retrieve their package.
- Be the face of the company, be friendly, approachable, and professional.
Requirements
- High School Diploma
- 2 years' experience in a similar role
- Demonstrated knowledge of mail handling guidelines
- Valid Drivers Permit
- Detail-focused, with good problem-solving skills
- Strong customer service skills
- Able to use hand-held electronic devices
- Good knowledge of local roads, shortcuts, and routes
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Able to multi-task effectively
