Lab Assistant job brief
We are currently seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Lab Assistant to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting with laboratory experiments and ensuring the proper maintenance and organization of lab equipment and supplies. The Lab Assistant will work closely with our team of researchers and scientists to help achieve our research goals.
Lab Assistant responsibilities
- Assist with laboratory experiments by preparing reagents, making solutions, and performing routine lab procedures under the supervision of senior lab personnel.
- Maintaining lab equipment, including cleaning, performing regular maintenance and calibration, and logging repair or maintenance needs.
- Organize lab supplies and reagents, ensuring that stocks are well-maintained, properly labeled, and easily accessible.
- Ensure adherence to established lab protocols and safety standards, including proper disposal of hazardous waste and maintaining suitable levels of cleanliness in the lab.
- Collaborate effectively with senior lab personnel and researchers to support experimental design, execution, and interpretation.
- Participate in team meetings, contribute to discussions, and provide support to team members as needed.
- Manage data records and assist in the documentation of laboratory experiments by recording detailed protocols, observations, and other data as needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, or a related field
- Prior experience working in a laboratory environment, specifically with experience performing basic lab techniques (such as pipetting, weighing chemicals, conducting assays, etc.)
- Strong attention to detail
- Good organizational skills with the ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
- Must have excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
- Familiarity with laboratory safety and the ability to follow established protocols
- Must be able to work independently after receiving initial guidance and training
- Basic proficiency in using computers, including software applications such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Flexibility to work weekends or holidays as required
