Job Brief
We are looking for a compassionate, approachable, and empathetic Guidance Counsellor to join our team! Our ideal candidate will have a strong background in counseling children of varying ages. The focus of the role is to listen to children's concerns and struggles and help them to navigate through issues they may face as they grow, such as school and learning, friendships, or problems at home.
Responsibilities
- Provide a listening ear to students, and spend sessions understanding their problems.
- Give advice to children that will help them cope with or navigate through the problems they are having.
- Ensure confidentiality is adhered to and ensure that records and notes of sessions are stored securely.
- Spend time observing children’s behavior outside of counseling sessions when needed.
- Make notes and action plans for children, so they can understand how to move forward and take steps to improve their situation.
- Liaise with parents and other school staff when needed.
- Assist with the guidance of career choices and finding resources for children to learn about different types of job industries.
- Ensure any reports of abuse or neglect are taken seriously and reported to the school and/or relevant authorities.
- Remain up to date with regulatory safeguarding guidelines.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or above in either psychology, child psychology, or a related field
- Minimum of 2 years previous experience in a similar role
- Strong knowledge of safeguarding guidelines
- Ability to communicate with parents, children, and other teachers
- Strong record-keeping abilities
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Good interpersonal skills with the ability to build strong relationships
- Good listening skills, with high levels of attention to detail
- Ability to multitask and prioritize own workload
