General Surgeon job description

Job brief

We are seeking a professional, personable, and knowledgeable General Surgeon to join our team! The ideal candidate will have a strong background in general surgery and provide knowledgeable and professional diagnoses and advice to our patients. The role's key focus is to provide general surgery to patients in the hospital, and advise them on testing, diagnoses, and prognosis in a professional, kind, and informative manner.

Responsibilities

• Complete tests on patients as needed.
• Run a diagnosis on patients and advise them of the findings.
• Consult with patients to explain the best treatment options available.
• Discuss surgery with patients and explain the risks and benefits.
• Perform surgery that enhances the patients’ physical abilities or rectifies a previous condition or concern.
• Perform surgery to repair damages caused by injury or trauma to a specific area.
• Liaise with anesthetists and other healthcare professionals to ascertain the safety and risk of operating on any given individual.
• Use robotics and other surgery aids as required to complete surgeries.
• Work in line with infection control guidelines.
• Work in line with patient confidentiality guidelines and safeguarding best practices.

Requirements

• Doctor of General Surgery or related surgery field, along with a bachelor’s degree in biology or related field
• Minimum of 4 years in medical school, with an internship or externship
• Two years’ experience in hands-on surgery in a medical or hospital setting
• Ability to use robotic medical aid equipment during surgeries
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Demonstrated knowledge of infection control, patient confidentiality, and safeguarding best practices
• Excellent attention to detail – even when working under pressure
• Solid problem-solving skills
• Physically able to be on your feet for long periods of time
