Forensic Anthropologist job brief
We are looking for a highly skilled Forensic Anthropologist to join our team. As a Forensic Anthropologist, you will be responsible for applying scientific methods to identify human remains and investigate cases of violent crime. You will work closely with law enforcement agencies, medical examiners, and other forensic experts to provide critical information that can help solve cases and bring closure to families.
Forensic Anthropologist responsibilities
- Conduct systematic searches and on-site investigations to recover and identify human remains.
- Analyze skeletal remains using a variety of scientific methods, such as determining age, sex, stature, and ancestry, as well as identifying injuries and trauma.
- Assess potential causes of death based on physical evidence, including gunshot wounds, knife wounds, blunt force trauma, and other injuries.
- Collect and analyze DNA samples to help identify victims and/or suspects in cases.
- Write detailed reports and provide expert testimony in court proceedings.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest forensic techniques and technologies and continue education/training to maintain proficiency.
- Collaborate with other forensic experts and members of law enforcement agencies to gather information and provide consultative services.
- Maintain detailed records of cases and work collaboratively with other team members to ensure the accuracy and completeness of information.
Requirements
- Ph.D. in Forensic Anthropology or a related field such as Physical Anthropology, Biological Anthropology, or Anatomy
- Experience working in forensic anthropology in a professional and research capacity
- Strong knowledge of human skeletal biology with experience in identifying the age, sex, stature, ancestry, and individualizing characteristics of human remains
- Ability to conduct independent research and apply critical thinking skills in the examination and analysis of human remains
- Experience with DNA analysis techniques and protocols
- Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to present complex information to non-experts
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team setting and in collaboration with law enforcement agencies
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
