Job brief
We are seeking a professional and knowledgeable Emergency Veterinarian to join our team! The ideal fit for the role will have a strong background in veterinary medicine and a genuine love for treating sick animals. The focus of the role is to provide expert care, knowledge, and remedial procedures/surgeries to animals of varying types, with a sense of urgency and commitment.
Responsibilities
- Consult with animals’ owners to ascertain the symptoms or issues the animal is experiencing.
- Conduct physical examinations of animals, along with other required investigatory measures such as ultrasounds, x-rays, bloodwork, and biopsies.
- Complete a diagnosis of the animals' condition, illness, or disease and advise their owners on the procedures or treatments required and the costs associated.
- Liaise with the front desk to book animals in for various procedures such as surgeries.
- Admit animals for urgent overnight care when needed.
- Prescribe required medications for animals.
- Review animals' medical records and ensure they are maintained with new information.
- Perform minor and major surgeries as needed.
- Provide educational advice to animal owners to ensure preventative measures are taken when needed.
Requirements
- Bachelors’ degree in biology or scientific field
- Masters’ degree in veterinary medicine
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) along with four years of internship or externship
- Licensed to practice veterinary medicine in the region you reside
- Two years of hands-on experience in various veterinary roles, such as vet assisting, vet tech, or junior vet
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Good problem-solving abilities
- Excellent administration and case management skills
- Demonstrated ability to use medical and surgical equipment
- Strong attention to detail with sound analytical skills
