Dispatcher job brief
We are currently seeking an experienced and reliable Dispatcher to join our team. As a Dispatcher, you will handle and coordinate logistics and transportation operations, ensuring smooth and efficient communication and coordination between drivers, customers, and service providers. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and organizational skills and be able to work well under pressure.
Dispatcher responsibilities
- Answer incoming phone calls, emails, and other forms of communication to receive and process work orders, inquiries, and requests regarding deliveries and transportation services.
- Assign drivers and vehicles to enable the timely delivery of products, packages, and materials to customers and service providers.
- Monitor the progress of drivers and shipments, ensuring that they adhere to delivery schedules and deadlines.
- Provide drivers with vital information such as addresses, delivery instructions, and traffic and weather conditions, and update them regularly on any changes or modifications.
- Liaise with customers, suppliers, and service providers to resolve any issues or complaints that may arise in the delivery process.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of deliveries, driver information, vehicle maintenance, and other relevant information.
- Continually review and improve dispatching processes and procedures to optimize efficiency and reduce costs.
- Coordinate with other departments such as sales, customer service, and operations to ensure the smooth flow of information and service.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED certificate, with relevant vocational or technical training preferred
- At least 2-3 years of experience working as a Dispatcher in the logistics or transportation industry, with knowledge of dispatching software and systems
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to handle and resolve conflicts diplomatically and professionally
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to multitask and work well under pressure and time constraints
- Knowledge of transportation regulations and safety standards, and the ability to ensure compliance
- Good computer skills, with experience using Microsoft Office suite, dispatching software, and GPS tracking systems
- Ability to work in a team environment, with the willingness to take on additional responsibilities when necessary
- A valid driver's license with a clean driving record and the ability to pass a background check
