Director of Photography job description

Job brief

We are seeking a talented and creative Director of Photography with deep knowledge in lighting equipment and camera work. The candidate will be responsible for supervising a lighting and camera crew, testing and ordering lighting equipment and cameras, and editing visual elements.

Responsibilities

• Define lighting requirements on set.
• Computes ratios and reads charts and to determine required lighting, film, angles of view, filter factors, camera distance, shutter angles, depth of field, and focus to produce desired effects.
• Determine the best frames for scenes and camera angles.
• Monitor a camera crew and instructs camera operators regarding camera angles and setup, movement, and distances.
• Select the appropriate film inventory and equipment.
• Decide elements such as shutter angles, camera distance, filters, depth of field, and focus.
• Manage the cameras’ aperture settings.
• Develop a film's visual design.
• Control artificial and natural lighting conditions.
• Coordinating with electricians to ascertain the suitable electrical voltage.
• Test and order cameras and lighting equipment.
• Edit visual components in post-production.

Requirements

• Degree in Film, Photography, or Art
• 3+ years of experience
• A reel of visual work
• Creative visual thinking
• Excellent interpersonal abilities
• Detail-oriented
• Savvy technical and camera operating skills
• Good management and organizational abilities
