Job brief
We are seeking an experienced, dynamic, and professional Direct Care Worker to join our team! The ideal candidate will have a strong background in building trusting relationships with the people they care for and be physically able and adept at carrying out the duties required for in-home care. The focus of the role is to assist disabled or elderly people to live the best possible quality of life within their own homes.
Responsibilities
- Assist patients with day-to-day living necessities at their home, such as helping to prepare meals, light housework duties, assisting with ensuring patients get and take their prescribed medication, and helping to bathe, dry, and clothe patients.
- Ensure the patient’s living area is kept free of obstacles on the floor and that infection control guidelines are being followed.
- Assist with the preparation of food and meals where patients are unable to do so.
- Complete grocery runs or emergency supply visits for patients.
- Ensure that patients have access to heating or air conditioning as needed and assist with getting access to social care to improve living conditions if required.
- Help patients move around their property. This could include moving them from a chair to their bed or to a wheelchair.
- Assist patients with performing toilet functions and bathing functions and assist with dressing patients for bedtime and during the day.
- Liaise with the other care team members to obtain updates about a patient's current condition or issues that need to be resolved during your shift.
- Provide reports on the patients conditions and improvements or deteriorations.
- Help the patient with obtaining and taking the required medication at the right time.
Requirements
- High school education or above
- Training in direct care professional work
- Certification as either a Home Health Aide, Direct care professional, or other relevant certification for the country/state you live in
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Patient and kind in nature
- Demonstrated interpersonal and relationship-building skills
- Excellent problem-solving abilities
- Physically able to aid patients with toilet and bathing functions
- A keen eye for detail
