Detective job description

Job brief

We are seeking a Detective to play an integral role in law enforcement and criminal justice and work in collaboration with all levels of law enforcement.

Responsibilities

• Work diligently to ensure the apprehension of the correct suspects and thoroughly analyze crime scenes to gather all relative evidence and information.
• Participate in site searches, analyze crime scenes and collect and preserve evidence, which includes interviewing witnesses.
• Apprehend and make arrests by determining probable cause for arrest, providing verbal commands to person(s) engaged in criminal activity, searching suspects, providing suspects with the required information.
• Participate in patrolling and managing crime and collision scenes by identifying suspicious or illegal activities.
• Responding to emergency calls and enforcing criminal and traffic laws, and investigating criminal activity.
• Perform court-related activities, such as testifying in court and answering questions under oath.
• Retain knowledge of all applicable Standard Operating Procedures and Federal and local laws and regulations.
• File for and secure search warrants.
• Write case reports and maintain meticulous case records.

Requirements

• U.S. citizen or national
• 18 years of age or older
• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent certificate; higher education is an asset
• Experience as a police officer or other related professional experience
• Sound knowledge of Title 18 of the United States Code and local and state criminal laws
• Demonstrate analytical thinking, sound judgment, and decisiveness
• Must be able to use the best judgment in a rapidly changing, often volatile environment
• Comfortable being in moderate to high-risk situations
• Able to undertake mentally and physically taxing responsibilities; must be in good health and physically fit, and meet vision standards for the performance of the duties of a criminal investigator
• Must have a clean criminal record and must not be prohibited by state or federal law from owning, possessing, or carrying a firearm
• Must be able to pass a drug and alcohol test
• Must have a valid Driver's License
