Deputy Sheriff job description

Job brief

We are seeking a Deputy Sheriff to spearhead the county's law enforcement department. 

Responsibilities

• Maintain law and order and protecting life and property.
• Apprehend and make arrests by determining probable cause for arrest, providing verbal commands to person(s) engaged in criminal activity, searching suspects, providing suspects with the required information.
• Participate in patrolling and managing crime and collision scenes by identifying suspicious or illegal activities.
• Responding to emergency calls and enforcing criminal and traffic laws, and investigating criminal activity.
• Complete reports and written documentation; perform court-related activities and answer questions under oath.
• Supervise activity in the county jail and performs disciplinary action as necessary. 
• Handle disputes and conflicts, interviewing parties, taking written statements and photographs of injuries, and providing disputing parties with information to resolve the conflict.
• Provide training and develop guidelines and procedures, and retain the knowledge of all applicable Standard Operating Procedures and Federal and local laws and regulations.
• Take appropriate action to respond to incidents and evaluate crime scenes. 
• Assist elected Sheriff and complete administrative tasks as necessary.

Requirements

• U.S. citizen or national
• 18 years of age or older
• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent certificate; higher education is an asset
• Experience as a police officer or other related professional experience is an asset
• Demonstrate analytical thinking, sound judgment, and decisiveness
• Comfortable being in moderate to high-risk situations
• Able to undertake physically taxing responsibilities; must be in good health and physically fit
• Must have a clean criminal record felony and must not be prohibited by state or federal law from owning or carrying a firearm
• Must be able to pass a drug and alcohol test
• Must have a valid Driver's License
