Corporate Translator job description

Job brief

Our company is searching for a professional and quick-thinking translator who can perform interpretation services in real-time for the management team during meetings with foreign clientele and can transcribe texts in other languages.

Responsibilities

• Attend meetings between the management team and clients to make real-time translations.
• Review documents in other languages and summarize them to managers verbally.
• Transcribe documents in different languages.
• Take language tests once a year to maintain fluency certification.
• Work cross-departmentally to ensure translations are accurate and clear.
• Assist with other business requirements in need of translation as assigned.
• Reading through original material and rewriting it in the target language, ensuring that the meaning of the source text is retained.
• Using dictionaries, thesauruses, and reference books to find the closest equivalents for terminology and words used.
• Staying current with the latest language idioms and cultural references to allow for hyper-realistic translations.
• Provide video conferencing, localization, and personal translation services when needed.
• Uphold strict confidentiality policy when translating materials.
• Follow various translation-quality standards to ensure legal and ethical obligations to the customer.

Requirements

• Fluent in English and Mandarin
• Taken a language assessment test and pass one for each language mentioned above
• 2+ years of professional translation experience
• Speak, understand and write fluently in at least two languages
• High school graduate or equivalent
• Professional and attentive
• Proficiency in the use of a range of computer packages - knowledge of translation-oriented applications and software is helpful
• Excellent writing skills and command of grammar
