Job brief
We are seeking an experienced and professional Coroner to join our team! The ideal candidate will have a strong background in directing activities relating to deceased patients, such as ordering autopsies, issuing causes of death, and managing a team. The role's key focus is to provide direction for autopsies, physical examinations of deceased patients along with toxicology reports and pathological analysis.
Responsibilities
- Direct and monitor activities within the department, such as ordering autopsies, physical examinations, and toxicology and pathology reports.
- Order inquests to investigate causes of death, whether natural, or to determine in violent or criminal activities played a part in a person’s death.
- Investigate to fix responsibility for accidental deaths.
- Provide testimony in court when required to provide information relating to a deceased person and their cause of death, along with evidence, at a trial for an unexplained, violent or criminal death.
- Manage other team members such as pathologists and provide expert advice, support and training to them.
- Ensure that all records are kept up to date and properly filed.
- Ensure you work in line with patient confidentiality guidelines at all times.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in biology or related scientific field
- Doctorate degree in pathology
- Minimum of 4 years residency/internship training in a medical facility or school relating to pathology
- Minimum of two years of experience working as a coroner or in a similar role
- Strong leadership and delegation skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Trustworthy in character
- Able to provide in-depth and detailed reports and analysis
