Job brief
We are seeking a passionate, creative, and service-focused Cook to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a wealth of experience in the culinary sector, preferably within a hotel or guest house setting. The focus of the role is to bring fresh, innovative food and menus to our guests, and cook and prepare food in line with food hygiene standards and hotel policy.
Responsibilities
- Create and develop exciting menus and new dishes for customers to try.
- Ensure food is cooked perfectly and to the customers’ request.
- Prepare ingredients in line with the current hygiene standards and the hotel operating policy such as chopping vegetables, cutting meat, etc.
- Supervise a small team of junior kitchen team members to ensure productivity is maintained.
- Set up and monitor all workstations with the required food ingredients and cooking utensils required.
- Monitor food and check for stirs, turns, and flips as required.
- Use varying cooking apparatus such as grills, woks, hot plates, barbeques, etc.
- Ensure all food is stored properly, in the right place, and in the right conditions.
- Ensure that the quality of the ingredients is up to standard and in date.
- Keep the kitchen area, utensils, and apparatus clean and in good condition.
Requirements
- Education within the culinary arts field
- 2 years experience as a cook or other related role within the hospitality field
- Current food hygiene badge issued by the local city/state or council
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal with well-developed interpersonal skills
- Good problem-solving skills with the ability to investigate and escalate issues where required
- Excellent customer service skills with a keen eye for detail and service focus
- Able to confidently maintain and keep stock levels accurate
- Confident with the use of computer programs such as Excel, Word, and Outlook
- Good knowledge of food storage and rotation
