Computer Security Specialist job description

Job brief

We are seeking an experienced, detail orientated and analytical individual to join our growing team as a Computer Security Specialist. The ideal candidate will be experienced in information and data security and adept with analyzing processes and improving them. The main focus of the role will be to carry out measures to best improve and maintain the company’s data and information security systems.

Responsibilities

• Monitor the organization’s networks for security levels, potential security breaches and investigate a security breach when one occurs.
• Install and monitor various types of software such as firewalls and encryption programs, to protect information and data and adhere to data protection laws.
• Prepare reports and documents that show any security breaches and what damage may have been caused by the breaches.
• Conduct various testing of the system and firewall including penetration testing by simulating attacks to look for vulnerabilities in the system before they can be exploited by outside hackers and data thieves.
• Research and implement the latest information technology (IT) security trends ongoing within the current market to keep up to date and informed about the latest technologies.
• Develop high-security standards and best practices for the organization and the organization’s clients whose data they hold.
• Recommend, develop, and implement security improvements with management or senior IT staff.
• Assist other team members users with the installation, upgrade or management of their current security program and assist with the implementation and user training of new systems.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or above in Computer science, Engineering, Math, or Information Technology
• Minimum of 2 years experience in a related role, or internship
• Good analytical skills with the ability to view and understand data, as well as identify trends and patterns
• Excellent communication skills to communicate with management and users of any security software
• Good team working skills
• Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to break the problem down from the root
• Able to constantly research and keep up to date with industry best practices
