Commodity Manager Job Description

Job brief

We are hoping to employ a hands-on and organized commodity manager to join our company and oversee the purchase of commodities, update our inventory strategy, and liaise with suppliers to ensure the stability of our supply chain. They will also ensure that project-approved budgets are adhered to and evaluate markets to mitigate risks.

Responsibilities

• Assess and approve supplier and market details.
• Devise ways and means to maximize commodity buying efficiency and minimize risks.
• Develop and manage pricing strategies.
• Draft proposals to manage contracts and negotiations.
• Collaborate with suppliers on improving quality.
• Alleviate risks and focus on developing supplier performance.
• Assists in keeping projects within budgeting guidelines.
• Instruct and support trainees on commodity sourcing.
• Supervise supply quality and feedback.
• Inculcate extensive knowledge on commodities and their sales and purchase.
• Develop and maintain business communication with suppliers regarding their concerns.
• Encourage staff to design novel techniques for commodity sourcing.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management or similar relevant field preferred
• Previous experience in supply chain or commodity management
• Solid knowledge of financial markets that influence commodity prices
• Strong background in commodity trading and risk management software
• Excellent negotiating skills and the ability to communicate effectively with vendors and suppliers
• Advanced analytical skills
• Strong leadership skills and the ability to work well with people across departments and levels
