Job brief
We are seeking a focused and detail-oriented Café Manager to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience as both a leader and barista to ensure the smooth running of the café. The role's focus will be to provide leadership to the team, manage the internal café and its daily functions, provide reports, manage budgets and negotiate supplier agreements.
Responsibilities
- Manage the day-to-day running of the café, from start to finish, including service levels, team member management, and resolving of issues.
- Create rotas for the café team to ensure adequate cover at all times.
- Monitor the inventory within the café and identify items that are low or need to be ordered.
- Monitor the budget and expenditure of the café and ensure reports are completed on the justification of expenditure along with detailed forecasts.
- Work with the HR department to hire, train and induct new team members.
- Ensure health and safety are adhered to within the café.
- Ensure that team members' food badges are up-to-date and renewed as required.
- Monitor the performance of the café team and conduct regular appraisals and performance reviews.
- Create new and exciting drinks menus and update existing menus where required.
- Collaborate with external vendors and suppliers to negotiate rates and secure new contracts.
- Lead the café team and effectively delegate tasks where required.
- Ensure productivity levels are maintained to a high standard and resolve staff issues as they arise.
- Create and develop effective, operationally viable processes and procedures for the running of the café.
- Manage all time-off requests for team members and be available for on-call emergencies.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree or above in Hospitality, Catering, or another related field. Or, a related certificate and equivalent experience
- Current Food Hygiene badge issued by the relevant state/city or council
- Excellent understanding of coffee and different types of beans and variations of hot drinks available
- Demonstrated experience in leading a team and delegating tasks where required
- Demonstrated ability to ensure productivity within a team and meet and exceed deadlines and targets
- Outstanding communication abilities, both written and verbal
- Effective negotiation and influencing abilities
- Fine-tuned problem-solving skills
- Experience with working in a fast-paced, high-pressured environment
- Ability to be flexible with work timings
