Job brief
We are seeking a service-orientated, dynamic, and dependable Bar Manager to join our team! The ideal candidate will have a wealth of experience in the drinks industry, preferably with supervisory or managerial experience. The focus of the role is to manage the bar team, ensure supply-demand is met, liaise with external vendors to negotiate contracts, and ensure the smooth running and productivity of the bar.
Responsibilities
- Manage the bar staff team, including creating and amending rotas to always ensure adequate cover, noting time off requests and keeping the diary in good order, and dealing with sickness and absence as required.
- Manage and monitor the inventory of the bar, placing orders for new stock that needs to be replenished to ensure steady consistent availability of products.
- Make notes of the best-selling products.
- Create and develop deals and promotions for the bar, such as happy hours, 2 for 1 special, etc.
- Update the drinks menu as and when required.
- Collaborate with external vendors to negotiate supply contracts and prices.
- Liaise with the HR department to hire and train new bar staff as required.
- Lead and develop the team, monitor their performance, and hold regular performance reviews to address any issues.
- Act as a stand-in where required to cover shifts and serve customers.
- Reconcile cash tills at the end of each shift and store the money in the safe/designated area securely.
- Keep accounts and balance sheets for the week/month and bank money when required to the designated financial institution.
- Manage the budget, profit, and loss margins and provide reports to executives to justify expenditure and losses if applicable.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or above in catering. Hospitality or other related field, or equivalent experience in a managerial position with the beverage industry
- Current food hygiene badge issued by the state/city or council
- Excellent leadership skills with the ability to effectively delegate
- Service focused attitude with an emphasis on providing excellent customer service
- Good problem-solving abilities
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
- Proficient with the use of computer packages such as Microsoft Office, Excel, and Word.
- Demonstrated ability to calculate numbers, financials and provide detailed reports
- Ability to cover shifts at short notice and be flexible
