Truck Drivers are professional drivers who safely carry a variety of cargo to various locations. Truck drivers come in many shapes and sizes, varying from articulated trucks, own to 7.5t tail lift trucks and everything in between. Nether the less, they must have a strong knowledge of the road network and the proper and safe way to operate their trucks. 

Truck drivers must have a license relevant to the vehicle they drive and must ensure their trucks are within the weight limits of their city/state. Truck drivers also must adhere to strict driving time directives, vehicle checks, and other duties. Such as operating tail lifts, refrigerated wagons, and various other tools

Skill-based questions

It is good practice to ask various types of questions, including skill-based, role-specific, behavioral, and situational questions, to identify strong candidates.

  • What types of vehicles are you most comfortable driving?
  • Have you used a tail lift?
  • Have you driven a temperature-controlled vehicle?
  • What is the law for driving hours (driving time directive) In your location?
  • What is a digital tachograph?
  • What should you do before taking your vehicle out on the road?

Situational & Behavioural questions

  • You have been loaded and are given the green light to leave. What must you do before going out on the road?
  • You receive a report from a dispatcher saying your route is blocked by a serious traffic accident. What do you do?
  • You are almost out of driving hours but do not have a safe place to stop. What do you do?
  • You are parked up overnight to sleep in the wagon. Before going to sleep, what should you check?
  • Tell me about a time you have encountered a problem on the road and how you solved it.

General Questions

  • What are some things you would like to achieve in your work career within the next five years?
  • What have you done in your career so far to learn and develop yourself professionally?
  • Why did you decide to enter the logistics industry?
  • What are the top three skills you have that you think you can transfer to this role?
  • Why have you applied for this role? How do you think you will benefit from working in the role?
