Interview Questions to Hire Project Manager

Project managers are responsible for overseeing specific projects that the business has started. Their main functions are ensuring clients understand the deliverables and manage their expectations, along with ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget.

When interviewing project managers, you should be looking for someone who has a background in your industry, I.e., IT, software, etc. You should also look for people with broad experience and demonstrated ability to work under pressure to agreed timelines. You may want to look at candidates who have either a PMP ce4rtification or a scrum master certification.

• Have you used project management software previously? Which application do you like best, and what features do you like about it?
• How do you manage your workload effectively?
• If you were faced with a client who changes deliverables halfway through a project and expected the deadline to remain the same, how would you approach that with the client?
• Tell me about projects you have worked on where you have monitored and managed budgets with tight margins.
• What are the key factors that make up a successful project?
• How do you feel about teamwork? What are the benefits?
• Do you apply any theories to project management? For example, agile/scrum?

Behavioral Questions

• How do you keep up to date with evolving trends in the project management market?
• Describe a problem you faced, as well as the steps you took to resolve it.
• What is your biggest project achievement so far? What did you enjoy about it?
