Nursing Supervisors are responsible for supervising existing staff and for hiring and training new staff in a healthcare facility. A Nursing Supervisor’s duties include managing department budgets, listening to patients’ complaints, and assigning nurses to shifts.

When assessing Nursing Supervisors, look for someone who has excellent time management skills, and can multitask under pressure while remaining friendly and professional. A Nursing Supervisor should demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate with patients, families, physicians, and hospital staff, and be able to discipline staff when required. Candidates who do not have a minimum of 5 years’ experience in nursing, and who lack experience supervising nursing staff should be avoided.
