Assistant Nursing Directors support and facilitate a healthcare facility's nursing workforce. They are employed in nursing homes, rehabilitation facilities, and hospitals. Their primary responsibility is to ensure that the nursing department functions efficiently by planning budgets, supervising admissions processes, and establishing policies.

Assistant Nursing Directors will be responsible for a variety of tasks, such as assisting the Director of Nursing with maintaining department budgets, formulating protracted goals, and monitoring record-keeping methods.

Skill related questions

  • How would you help make sure that every nursing unit adheres to the law and high standards of care?
  • What steps do you take differently when managing newly qualified nurses versus seasoned ones?
  • Have you ever managed a budget? What is the largest budget you've ever managed?
  • Do you bring your work home with you? How can you ensure that you have a positive work balance?
  • How can a team be strengthened and developed?

  • Do you believe a nursing director should have more nursing or management skills?
  • Do you miss your responsibilities as a nurse? How do you maintain that knowledge up to date?
  • What characteristics do you seek in a new nurse?
  • Give us an example of when you had to set an urgent objective and achieve it.
  • What challenges do you anticipate from this position?
