An airline pilot transports cargo and passengers on both international and local flights. They can fly commercially, for business, or for pleasure. Two airline pilots, one as the captain and the other as the assisting co-pilot, will normally handle the aircraft throughout flights.

The safety of the vessel, cargo, and passengers is the responsibility of airline pilots. They must fly while operating navigational devices and communicating successfully with crew members. Hence, they must have a strong mix of technical and interpersonal abilities.

Below, we've put together two lists of interview questions to make the process simpler and easier for you.

Technical Questions

  • Can you explain what the 1-2-3 rule is?
  • What is the minimum altitude at which DME equipment is required?
  • What is the lowest altitude at which you can fly over a crowded area?
  • How would you handle an emergency while flying?
  • If you have to fly a plane that had mechanical issues? If that's the case, how did you address it?

Non-Technical Questions

  • What makes you want to be in the aviation industry which led to this career?
  • What makes you want to work with [airline company name]?
  • Why do you think a pilot needs to be proficient in more than one language?
  • What qualities do you think a good pilot needs to have?
  • If you have to deal with a difficult crew or customer, what would you do to handle the situation?
  • Tell us about a time you go above and beyond for a customer?
  • What’s your plan for the next five years?

Conclusion

Keep an eye out for candidates who are aware and knowledgeable about the role they are applying for. Other than that, they should be able to work well with others and know how to handle difficult situations.
