Why does it matter?

Performance reviews are an essential measure of a company’s growth, as it tells executives how much their employees have managed to hit their goals and move up in terms of positions. However, it can sometimes be a challenge to get everybody actively engaged in performance reviews. It may be hard for some employees to follow through with all the steps, or for some to understand how important performance reviews are for them. Having an email template that outlines the best tips to ace reviews is thus essential for getting everybody engaged.

When to send?

Consider sending this email around 2 weeks to 1 month before the actual performance review. The situation differs from company to company, but generally it is best to give your team some time to take in the information and bring any concerns up with their managers.

What to include?

  • Clear steps on how your company measures performance
  • A message to raise awareness about KPIs for every position
  • Any pertinent processes that are related to the performance review

  • Refer to your KPIs previously set with your manager, as well as your job description. This will help you find out how much you have contributed to the company’s growth.
  • Collect your achievements, and present them in numbers wherever possible. Saying you’ve exceeded your goals by 30% is better than just saying you’ve achieved better results.
  • Always back up your results with some evidence to support your self-evaluation. This will come in handy when you are discussing your performance review with your manager.
