Why does it matter?

Managers use performance improvement plans (PIPs) to assist employees in performing better at their job. So, to ensure the employee is improving and achieving the expected performance criteria, following up on a PIP is important.

It's a follow-up email that can clarify expectations, reaffirm the plan's significance, and offer the employee direction and support.

When to send?

You can send this follow-up email after every progress with your employee. This will help keep them accountable and motivated to meet their goals.

What to include?

When writing your performance improvement plan follow-up email, ensure to include the following:

  • A brief introduction
  • A summary of the progress made since the last meeting
  • A review of the goals set out in the PIP
  • An assessment of whether the employee is meeting those goals
  • Any additional resources or support that can be provided
  • A reminder of what will happen if the employee does not meet their goals
