Hours Worked are the number of hours an employee actually worked either in a day or in a week. It is the sum of the total time spent on direct or additional activities to produce work (goods and services).
This does not include travel time between home and the workplace, and allotted meal breaks during the day. Time spent traveling between workplaces in the middle of the workday should, however, be included in the hours worked that day.
The 8-hour day became the traditional pattern for workers during the 20th century. Most employees today start working around 9 am and finish at 5 or 6 pm. The start and end times of employees are determined by the employers and agreed upon by both the employee and the employer at the time of hire.
Working hours vary among companies and organizations. However, it is wise to always check the definition of working hours based on the labor laws of the countries you operate in, to ensure compliance with local policies.
