When it comes to discussions about generational characteristics, much of the focus is on Baby Boomers and Millennials. 

However, sandwiched between these two groups is Generation X, a cohort of people born between the mid-1960s and early 1980s. 

What is Generation X?

Generation X is the group of people born between the mid-1960s and early 1980s. This generation is sometimes considered to be the forgotten generation, as they are sandwiched between the larger Baby Boomer and Millennial generations. 

This cohort grew up during a time of social and economic change, including the end of the Cold War, the rise of technology, and the emergence of a globalized economy.

What are the traits of Generation X?

One of the defining traits of Generation X is their independence and self-reliance. This generation grew up with more freedom and less parental supervision than previous generations, leading to a strong sense of self-sufficiency. 

They also value work-life balance, as they came of age during a time of economic uncertainty and job insecurity. As a result, they tend to prioritize their personal lives over their careers.

What matters to this generation?

For Generation X, family is a top priority. This cohort tends to value personal connections and relationships over career success or material possessions. They also tend to prioritize experiences over things, with travel and adventure being a high priority for many.

Work-life balance is also a key priority for Generation X. This cohort tends to place a high value on flexible work arrangements and the ability to control their own schedules. 

They are willing to work hard, but only if it allows them to achieve a balance between their personal and professional lives. In addition, Generation X tends to be socially conscious and values making a positive impact on the world. 

This generation grew up during a time of social and environmental activism, leading to a desire to make a difference in their communities and the world at large.

Generation X has unique traits and values that distinguish them from other generations. This cohort values independence, work-life balance, family, and social consciousness.
